The countdown clock in Moscow

Celebrations began on Thursday as the countdown to the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship Russia 2022 started in 10 cities across the country.

Countdown clocks in the 10 cities set to host next year's World Championship will mark the passage of time as the competition approaches and as 24 men's national teams prepare to participate in the biggest event on the volleyball calendar.

Stars of the sport were in attendance as the countdown began, including the likes of Maxim Mikhaylov, Alexander Volkov and Alexander Butko, who have inspired fans across the country and beyond. For all the fans, players, coaches and officials present, including legendary coach Nikolay Karpol, it was a day to celebrate, with next year's event promising to be a true festival of volleyball.

The 2022 edition of the Men's World Championship will be played from Saint Petersburg and Moscow in the west of the country to Kemerovo and Krasnoyarsk in the east, across as many as four time zones. The Longest Volleyball Match, played in all 10 host cities (also including Kaliningrad, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Ufa, Yaroslavl and Yekaterinburg), celebrated the scale of the tournament, and as the countdown clocks started their work, excitement and anticipation are high.
