Serbia's second-straight victory in Pasay City got the team up to six points in the Pool H standings and confirmed their presence in the Round of 16. For Brazil, the defeat had the opposite effect, as if the South Americans seemed very close to advancing two days ago after securing their second victory in the tournament, they now need to wait for the outcome of the match between Czechia and China later on Thursday to know their fate.
Brazil completed their pool play campaign with six points, two wins, six sets won and four lost. Czechia have three points, one win, three sets won and three lost, and need to beat China 3-0 to finish higher than Brazil in the set ratio tie-breaker. If they win 3-1, the decision goes to points ratio. If they win 3-2 or lose, Brazil advance.
Opposite Dražen Luburić was pivotal in the Serbian victory, leading the team's offense with 19 points (17 kills, two aces). Outside hitter Pavle Perić also had a productive performance, contributing 15 points (13 kills, one block, one ace).
"Brazil are an amazing team and it has been a little while since we last beat them," setter Nikola Jovović said. "Maybe today they didn't play their best, and we had an amazing game. We were able to show a lot of emotions and great volleyball, and I'm very happy and proud of the team. We want to continue playing this way."
