Belgium’s rising star opposite Ferre Reggers emerged as the best scorer of the pool stage of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in the Philippines. Bulgaria’s Aleksandar Nikolov, Finland’s Petteri Tyynismaa and Luka Marttila, Netherlands’ Michiel Ahyi, Argentina’s Luciano De Cecco and Belgium’s Gorik Lantsoght are the other individual statistical leaders after the first phase of the competition.

Ferre Reggers produced a match-high 31 points in Belgium’s five-set upset of mighty Italy

22-year-old Belgian striker Ferre Reggers topped the best scorers individual ranking with a total of 73 points over the three matches played – 23 against Ukraine, 31 against Italy and 19 against Algeria. He edged 21-year-old Bulgarian outside hitter Aleksandar Nikolov by only two points, while Filipino outside Bryan Bagunas came another point behind in third place on that chart with 70.
Aleks Nikolov edged ahead of Reggers in the best attackers ranking. The Bulgarian rising star put together 63 spike kills, leaving the Belgian rising star behind with 62, and Bagunas with 61.
Another Belgian, 19-year-old libero Gorik Lantsoght, topped the best diggers chart. He accounted for 33 digs, one more than the second best defender, French libero Jenia Grebennikov. Yet another libero, Turkiye’s Berkay Bayraktar, took third place in the table with 27 digs.
Finland also has two representatives among the individual chart leaders. 22-year-old outside Luka Marttila emerged on top of the best receivers ranking. He registered 27 successful receptions, one more than Argentinean outside Luciano Palonsky, and two more than Portuguese libero Ivo Casas.
Another young Finnish talent, 22-year-old middle blocker Petteri Tyynismaa, stands on top of the best blockers ranking with a total of 12 stuffs. Slovenian middle Jan Kozamernik comes second with 11, while Argentinean opposite Pablo Kukartsev is running in third place with 10 kill blocks.
Michiel Ahyi, the leading opposite of the Netherlands, showed his prowess from the serving line and fired a total of 12 aces to head the best servers chart. Turkish outside Efe Mandiraci is second with 10 aces, while a close third place is shared by Canadian middle Fynnian McCarthy and 21-year-old Iranian outside Poriya Khanzadeh with nine direct serving points each.
Magical Argentinean playmaker Luciano De Cecco shines on top of the best setters ranking. He piled up 137 successful sets over the three matches played. The top three is completed by 22-year-old Iranian Arshia Behnezhad with 126 and Brazil’s Fernando Kreling with 115.
The players of the teams that advanced to the elimination phase can continue to improve their tallies as the tournament proceeds. The eighthfinal round is next on the World Championship program. It will take place over the next four days, from Saturday, September 20, to Tuesday, September 23, with two matches a day.
