Brazil (BRA) vs. Czechia (CZE) men - Pool H #59316169

Middle blocker Judson Nunes scored ten points for Brazil

A strong performance in their second match in the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship has put South American giants Brazil very close to the tournament's Round of 16 on Tuesday.

Showing more consistency than in their debut against China two days ago, the Brazilians met the also undefeated Czechia at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and dominated the Europeans to produce a solid 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-18) victory in the first match of the day in the Philippines.

With six points collected in their first two Pool H matches, the three-time world champions are very close to confirming their presence in the tournament's Round of 16 - they will do that if they win at least two sets in their last pool play match against Serbia on Thursday. The South Americans, however, may not need to wait that long to celebrate, as they will be guaranteed if Serbia can't beat China 3-0 or 3-1 later on Tuesday.

Opposite Alan de Souza tallied ten kills, one block and one ace to end the match with 12 points, one more than outside hitter Arthur Bento and two more than middle blocker Judson Nunes.

"I think our consistency at the service line was the key today," outside hitter Ricardo Lucarelli remarked. "Our blocking has been working well since the VNL, so when we can serve well and put opponents under pressure, things get a little bit easier for us. Our side out was stable, and our game was flowing, so overall it was a very good performance from us."

Czech Lukáš Vašina was the match's top scorer with 14 points (12 kills, two blocks), while fellow outside hitter Jan Galabov added nine, with seven kills, one block and one ace.

"It was a difficult match for us today," Galabov reflected. "We didn't start well, came back a little bit in the second set, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Now we need to bring back the same mindset we had in our first match against Serbia for our next one against China, so we can try to qualify."

Brazil didn't give Czechia much of a chance, dominating every aspect of the game and outscoring the Europeans in kills (41 to 30), blocks (eight to five), aces (five to two) and opponent errors (21 to 14).
