The 7-foot opposite hammered 33 kills and delivered eight aces on Friday, producing the highest single-game total of the tournament to date. His relentless scoring kept Cuba in contention until the closing set.

Martinez, 19, had already posted 24 points against Bulgaria the day before. Against Czechia, he carried an even greater load, breaking through a defense that had no consistent answer for his power and serving.

Despite the loss, Martinez accounted for nearly half of Cuba’s total points, confirming his role as the team’s primary weapon and one of the tournament’s headline performers.

With 65 points across his first two matches, Martinez has quickly emerged as one of the standout players in Jiangmen. His 41-point performance, even in defeat, will be remembered as one of the defining efforts of the U21 World Championship.
