Thai outside hitter Jakkrit Thanonmoi ranks among the best scorers of the 2023 FIVB Volleyball U21 Men’s World Championship.

However, Jakkrit’s co-best scorers all stand above 190 metres tall.

The only thing he lacks from that perspective is height as he stands only 1.85 metres, but he certainly does not lack the firepower and the intensity to jump from the attack line.

The 20-year-old is one of the most athletic players in the competition and one of the most exciting to watch, always bringing the Isa Sport Hall crowd to its feet with his high-flying acts, hitting over and around the opponent’s block.

He has already impressed on his very first international stint, scoring in double figures in all of Thailand’s five matches so far and winning two matches along the way.

“This is my first time with the national team in the World Championship. I have never played in the national team before. I have been approached many times by Thailand Volleyball Association to join the team, but I chose to focus on my education first,” said Jakkrit who is now on his second year of studying physical education at Kasetsart University in Bangkok.

“I took interest in the sport at seven years old, when I was in Grade 1. My friends played it, so I joined them and started to play at age 10,” he recalled.

With the immense talent that he has shown in Manama, the young Thai outside hitter still believes that he needs to work more on his skills to be in the senior national team.

“I’m very proud to play in the U21 national team, I hope that someday I can help the national team to become a world-class team. First, I would like to develop further my receiving and attacking skills. I would like to develop myself physically so that I could join the senior team,” he said.

“My dream is to play in the VNL, but my most immediate goal is to make it to the senior national team.”
