The third leg of the regular season of the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà will take place over the weekend, but before that, four teams, including three that are still undefeated, will get on the court in Italy.

For the first time in the season, the Italian League will feature midweek action, with Numia Vero Volley Milano facing Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 on Wednesday, at 20:30 local time (18:30 GMT), and Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia welcoming defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano on Thursday, at the same time. The two matches were originally scheduled for the 13th leg of the first round of the regular season, but were moved due to a date conflict with the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.

Wednesday’s duel in Milano will oppose two of the five undefeated teams in the Lega Femminile so far. Despite not having star opposite Paola Egonu, Milano overcame Wash4Green Pinerolo and SMI Roma Volley in their first two matches in the Italian League.

“It will be a very complicated match for us on Wednesday, against an opponent with great offensive potential and a strong playing system,” Milano’s head coach Stefano Lavarini reflected. “Serving well to create difficulties to their side out will be very important, but we’ll need to pick our shots very well too. I’m sure it’s going to be a great match.”

Chieri had strong results at the start of the season, upsetting Igor Gorgonzola Novara in their debut and handling Honda Olivero Cuneo in three sets last weekend. Against Milano, the team will try to continue at a good pace.

“We started the season with two victories, which is obviously important, but I feel that we still have a lot of room for improvement as a team,” Cypriot middle blocker Katerina Zakchaiou said. “Milano is a strong team, with dynamic players. We’ll need to follow our coach’s instructions and give our best to get the result.”

Conegliano visit Perugia

On Thursday, Perugia, who are back in the Italian elite after winning the country’s second division last season, will face defending champions Conegliano. The team is yet to win a match in the Lega Femminile but showed great progress between the first and second weeks as, after falling to Bergamo in three sets, they were able to push Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia to the tie-breaker.

“If we are going to play Conegliano, it’s because we can compete with them,” Romanian outside hitter Adelina Budăi-Ungureanu remarked. “We know we’re going to face a very strong team, but can’t be scared. We’ll need to be good at finding solutions to the challenges that the match will bring and do everything we can. We need to play our game.”

Conegliano have been in their usual dominant form so far as, even without Chinese outside hitter Zhu Ting, one of their main signings for the season, they were able to sweep Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio and Cda Volley Talmassons Fvg.

“It’s a very intense week for us, with three road games,” head coach Daniele Santarelli analyzed. “We already overcame the first challenge, but now there are two more to come. I feel that the team is healthy and growing. We’re doing some things well and are still working on others, but I’m satisfied with what we’ve been able to show. We have a deep roster and now it’s one of those times we need to take advantage of it.”
