Undefeated in the 2025-2026 Lega Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà since mid-November, Savino Del Bene Scandicci earned their eighth-straight victory in the tournament on Sunday and closed the gap to league leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano, cutting the difference between the teams to just two points.

The reigning world champions got the job done in the sixth leg of the second round of the regular season, claiming all three points against Eurotek Laica UYBA Busto Arsizio to get to 49 (17 wins, two losses), and saw the league leaders drop one in a five-set win over Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri '76, now standing at 51 (18 wins, one loss).

Coming from a mid-week loss to Turkish giants VakıfBank in the CEV Champions League that ended their 15-match winning streak across all competitions, Scandicci gave a quick and powerful answer on Sunday in their return to the Italian League, sweeping (25-18, 25-15, 25-19) Busto on the road.

American outside hitter Sarah Franklin stepped up to reenergize Scandicci and emerged as the team's top scorer on Sunday, registering 16 points (14 kills, two blocks) and earning the match's MVP award. Star opposite Ekaterina Antropova came next with ten (eight kills, two blocks).

"This was not a simple match," assistant coach Sándor Kántor said. "We struggled a little bit in the first set, and I think that was because we faced a very tall team in VakıfBank during the week and needed to adjust to a different profile today. Our blocking was very strong today, and that set us up for a great win."

Busto had opposite Josephine Obossa as their leading scorer with 13 points (11 kills, two aces), followed by Mexican outside hitter Melanie Parra, who contributed another eight, with seven kills and one ace.

'Big Three' steps up for Conegliano

Also on Sunday, Conegliano were pushed to their limits by Chieri, but used their power and experience to prevail at the end, winning 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-18, 15-12) on the road.

The Panthers heavily relied on their 'Big Three' formed by opposite Isabelle Haak and outside hitters Zhu Ting and Gabriela 'Gabi' Guimarães to triumph, as they combined to produce 57 points - the Swedish, who earned the match's MVP award, led the way with 21 (18 kills, two aces, one block), the Chinese contributed 19 (18 kills, one block) and the Brazilian added 17 (16 kills, one block).

"It was a really tough match today," Haak remarked. "We started well, but then we were just making too many errors, and Chieri took advantage of it. But I'm happy that we managed to win a very difficult match and to take two very important points."

Chieri had two players matching Haak's production on their side - world champion outside hitter Stella Nervini, who left the court with 21 kills to her name, and Hungarian opposite Anett Németh, who got to the same amount of points with 17 kills, two blocks and two aces.

Numia Vero Volley Milano took advantage of Chieri's defeat to beat them for third place, getting to 43 points (14 wins, five losses) to their rivals' 41 with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19) victory over Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia on Sunday. Opposite Paola Egonu topped all scorers with 18 points (16 kills, two blocks) while outside hitter Rebecca Piva tallied 17 (14 kills, three blocks) and earned the MVP award.

The sixth leg of the second round of the regular season also had CBF Balducci HR Macerata beating Omag-Mt San Giovanni In Marignano 3-2 (25-22, 22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 19-17) on Saturday and Il Bisonte Firenze sweeping (25-21, 25-23, 25-19) Honda Cuneo Granda Volley and Megabox Ondulati Del Savio Vallefoglia taking Bergamo down in five sets (21-25, 18-25, 25-12, 26-24, 15-12) on Sunday. The match between Igor Gorgonzola Novara and Wash4Green Monviso Volley was anticipated and took place back in December.
