Now undefeated in their last seven 2025-2026 Lega Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà matches, Igor Gorgonzola Novara continued to collect points this week, during the first leg of the second round of the regular season, and are now in second place in the standings.

The Courmayeur Cup winners hosted last-placed Omag-Mt San Giovanni In Marignano on Sunday, and, after unexpectedly going down in the first set, regained control of the match to win it 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 25-19) and extend their winning streak.

With nine points earned within the last eight days, Novara got to 35 (12 wins, three losses) and now appear in second place in the standings. After taking full advantage of their absences to compete at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship, they are now five points behind league leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and one ahead of third-placed Savino Del Bene Scadicci - both teams have a game in hand on them, though.

Russian opposite Tatiana Tolok carried Novara's offense with 26 points (22 kills, three aces, one block) and earned the match's MVP award. Middle blocker and team captain Sara Bonifacio also had a solid shift, with 14 points (nine kills, three blocks, two aces).

"Winning all three points today was very important for us, and we managed to do it," said outside hitter Britt Herbots. "Playing against a team in their position is tricky, because they are willing to risk everything on serving to get the points they need. We struggled with it at the start, but then we settled and were able to pursue our goal. We played good volleyball in some moments, but we need to work to be more consistent."

Playing just her second match with San Giovanni, Chinese outside hitter Zhuang Yushan scored 21 points (19 kills, one block, one ace) and left the impression that she can lead the team's reaction in the second half of the season.

Milano beat Bergamo in five in their return

Returning to the Italian League for the first time since the end of November, fifth-placed Numia Vero Volley Milano were put to the test by eighth-placed Bergamo and needed all five sets to take their opponents down 3-2 (25-15, 23-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-12) on the road on Sunday.

Olympic and world champion opposite Paola Egonu led Milano with 24 points (22 kills, one block, one ace), helped by outside hitter Rebecca Piva, who produced 14 (13 kills, one block), and middle blocker Anna Danesi, who added 13 (seven kills, six blocks).

On Saturday, fourth-placed Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri '76 swept (25-21, 25-19, 25-22) 11th-placed Il Bisonte Firenze. Two other matches took place on Sunday, and both went to five sets - sixth-placed Megabox Ondulati Del Savio Vallefoglia defeated 12th-placed Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia 3-2 (25-20, 25-16, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11) and ninth-placed Honda Cuneo Granda Volley overcame tenth-placed CBF Balducci HR Macerata also in the tie-breaker (17-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-22, 15-11).
