Four days after securing their first major victory at the national level with the Supercoppa Italiana Fineco title, Numia Vero Volley Milano are set to return to action in the 2025-2026 Lega Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà on Wednesday.

The newly-crowned Supercoppa champions will feature in the first Derby of the Italian League this season, going on the road against Savino Del Bene Scandicci, at 20:30 local time (18:30 GMT).

The match is one of two duels that were anticipated from the 13th leg of the first round of the regular season and will be held on Wednesday. Earlier, at 20:00 (18:00 GMT), Wash4Green Monviso Volley will hosts Supercoppa runners-up Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano.

Milano will try to feed from the positive energy generated with their massive victory in Trieste on Saturday to produce a result that will move them up in the standings. With two wins in three Lega Feminine matches, they currently rank sixth with seven points, but could end up as high as second place if they triumph in the Derby.

The MVP in their Supercoppa victory, star opposite Paola Egonu will be one of their main weapons against Scandicci on Wednesday. The Olympic and world champion scored 30 points on Saturday and has been in great form in the Italian League too, having registered 78 points in three matches.

Currently in fifth place with eight points (three wins, one loss), Scandicci could also make a leap in the standings with a victory, having second place as their target ahead of Wednesday’s encounter.

The top scorer in the Lega Femminile so far and the only player to have reached three digits in the tournament with 101 points registered, Olympic and world champion opposite Ekaterina Antropova is Scandicci’s main scoring option.

“We’re sure they will have a very high level of confidence after their important victory at the Supercoppa,” said Scandicci’s head coach Marco Gaspari. “We didn’t play at our best level in the last two matches, but the victory against Firenze gave us confidence. Every team has dropped points in the League already and that shows us that every match should be approached very seriously. We’ll face a team that has big goals, like us, but we’ll be at home and we know what we need to do well.”

Besides Egonu, Milano have three other players who helped Italy triumph at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship last month in middle blockers Anna Danesi and Benedetta Sartori and Eleonora Fersino. Scandicci, on the other hand, have Olympic champion outside hitter Caterina Bosetti and Olympic medalists Maja Ognjenović and Avery Skinner as key pieces in their team.

The teams met less than a month ago in the Courmayeur Cup semifinals and Scandicci prevailed in four sets. Historically, however, Milano have the edge in Italian League matches, with 19 victories to their opponents’ 15.

Conegliano look to bounce back

Also set to get on the court on Wednesday, Conegliano will try to bounce back from arguably their toughest upset at the domestic level in quite some time, as their loss to Milano on Saturday had them not win a national tournament for the first time since 2018-2019.

The Panthers, who are currently second in the Italian League with eight points (three wins), can get to the top of the standings if they win 3-0 or 3-1. They will need to do that, however, without Chinese star outside hitter Zhu Ting, who was temporarily released to join Henan Shuanghui as they compete in the 15th edition of the Chinese National Games and will return by the end of November.

Lega Volley Femminile - Match Schedule & Results

Their opponents Monviso have one victory in four Lega Femminile matches this season and appear in 12th place with three points. Conegliano have won all six matches involving the teams in the last three seasons.
