Currently in fifth place with eight points (three wins, one loss), Scandicci could also make a leap in the standings with a victory, having second place as their target ahead of Wednesday’s encounter.
The top scorer in the Lega Femminile so far and the only player to have reached three digits in the tournament with 101 points registered, Olympic and world champion opposite Ekaterina Antropova is Scandicci’s main scoring option.
“We’re sure they will have a very high level of confidence after their important victory at the Supercoppa,” said Scandicci’s head coach Marco Gaspari. “We didn’t play at our best level in the last two matches, but the victory against Firenze gave us confidence. Every team has dropped points in the League already and that shows us that every match should be approached very seriously. We’ll face a team that has big goals, like us, but we’ll be at home and we know what we need to do well.”
Besides Egonu, Milano have three other players who helped Italy triumph at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship last month in middle blockers Anna Danesi and Benedetta Sartori and Eleonora Fersino. Scandicci, on the other hand, have Olympic champion outside hitter Caterina Bosetti and Olympic medalists Maja Ognjenović and Avery Skinner as key pieces in their team.
