With just four match days left until the end of the regular season, the Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà is set to go through a decisive moment when it comes to determining which teams will appear in the playoffs this weekend, during the tenth leg of the second round.

Right now, five of the eight teams that will take part in the postseason are already confirmed, with four sides competing for the remaining three spots. And it could all be decided this weekend.

Ranked first to fifth in the Italian League standings, Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano (66 points), Savino Del Bene Scandicci (51), Numia Vero Volley Milano (50), Igor Gorgonzola Novara (48) and Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 (40) are already guaranteed in the postseason.

Currently occupying positions sixth to eighth, Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio (35), Bergamo (33) and Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia (33) are very close to confirming their presences as well, but are still threatened by ninth-placed Wash4Green Pinerolo (29), the only team outside the qualification zone that still preserves chances of making it to the playoffs.

Given the situation, Sunday’s match between Pinerolo and Vallefoglia, set to start at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT), in Villafranca Piemonte, could be the key to bringing the race to an end this weekend.

If Vallefoglia win the match, they will qualify and also confirm Busto’s presence in the postseason as Pinerolo would only be able to get to a maximum of 34 points until the end of the regular season. In that scenario, for them to also be in, Bergamo would need to collect at least two points in their match against Vero Volley Milano, scheduled for 19:00 (18:00 GMT) – one point would be enough if Vallefoglia won 3-0 or 3-1.

It should, however, be a highly-competitive match between the eighth and the night placed teams in the standings, who went to five sets in the first round of the regular season, in December, when Pinerolo triumphed on the road. The balance continues when looking into the past meetings as each side has prevailed six times in the previous 12 encounters.

Busto, who play on the road against Il Bisonte Firenze, on Sunday, at 17:00 (16:00 GMT), are in full control of their faith this weekend. They need just two points in this match to confirm their presence in the postseason.

Fight to avoid relegation continues

If the race for the playoffs seems to be close to an end, the battle to avoid relegation will probably go on for a few more weeks, but important steps could be taken this week, with two matches reuniting teams that are currently fighting to continue in the Italian elite taking place on Sunday.

Earlier, at 17:00 (16:00 GMT), SMI Roma Volley, the first team above the relegation line, appearing in 12th place with 16 points, will face Bartoccini MC-Restauri Perugia, who are tenth, but not too far above, with 19 points.

One hour later, 11th-placed Honda Olivero Cuneo, who also have 19 points, could make the situation of 14th-placed Cda Volley Talmassons Fvg, who have 13, even more complicated.
