Defending champions Conegliano played on Monday and had no trouble knocking Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefgolia out with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-20) victory in Villorba.

Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak, with 16 points, and Brazilian outside hitter Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães, with 14, combined to produce 30 points in the team’s victory. Vallefoglia’s Albanian opposite Erblira Bici matched Haak’s production with 16 points.

“We certainly didn’t play our best match, but I’m happy because we accomplished our goal, which was to advance,” Olympic champion middle blocker Sarah Fahr reacted. “The fans pushed us from the start and even if we made way too many errors, we still managed to win. Now we have a few days to rest before the start of the second half of the season.”

Their opponents Novara also earned their spot in the semifinals with a sweep, beating Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio 3-0 (28-26, 25-18, 25-19) on Sunday.

Russian opposite Tatiana Tolok led Novara with 21 points, followed by Japanese star Mayu Ishikawa, who tallied 12. Swiss outside hitter Laura Künzler scored 14 for Busto.

“We are proud of our performance and happy to have advanced to the Final Four, which was a goal of great importance for us,” German outside hitter Lina Alsmeier commented. “Busto were very strong in the first half of the season and we knew they could cause us problems, so we took it one point at a time. Remaining focused on the gameplan was one of our keys today.”

Coppa Italia – Match Schedule & Results

Scandicci drop a set, but advance

In the only quarterfinal duel that didn’t end in three sets, Scandicci got the better of Bergamo, winning 3-1 (25-15, 25-16, 23-25, 25-16) in Firenze on Sunday.

Olympic champion opposite Ekaterina Antropova carried the team’s offense with 25 points, nine more than Brazilian middle blocker Ana Carolina ‘Carol’ da Silva. Cuban outside hitter Ailama Cesé scored 18 points for Bergamo.

“We played a good match and approached it in the right way,” said head coach Marco Gaspari. “We made some tweaks in our offensive system today and they worked well, which is not a surprise when you have a setter like Maja Ognjenović. We approached this match like a final and I liked to see how focused everyone was until the final point.”

In the fourth quarterfinal duel, also held on Sunday, Milano handled Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 in straight sets to win 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-21) and move forward.

Star opposite Paola Egonu registered 16 points, three more than Dutch outside hitter Nika Daalderop. With 12 points, French opposite Lucille Gicquel was Chieri’s most productive player.

“I’m happy with our performance and with the 3-0 victory,” setter and team captain Alessia Orro remarked. “We worked hard to be ready for this match and I’m happy that we managed to play in the way we wanted.”
