Numia Vero Volley Milano counted on an inspiring performance from star opposite Paola Egonu to be the only team to win at home in the 12th leg of the 2025-2026 Lega Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà regular season and collect all three points as the first round nears its conclusion.

Coming from a victory in their CEV Champions League debut during the week, the Supercoppa Italiana winners started behind at the Allianz Cloud on Sunday, but benefited from a stellar performance from the Paris 2024 Olympics MVP to fight back and send their fans back home pleased with a convincing 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20) victory.

Recognized as the match's MVP, Egonu had her second-best performance in the season on Sunday, producing a match-high 29 points with 23 kills, five blocks and one ace. Milano's second and third best scorers in the match, outside hitters Khalia Lanier and Rebecca Piva combined to deliver the same production as the team's captain, with the American registering 16 points (15 kills, one block) and the Italian adding another 13 (12 kills, one block).

"I think our performance today was good, but maybe not as good as we expected," middle blocker Anna Danesi reflected. "But we took all three points, and I believe we can still improve a lot in the second half of the season. Our first half was positive, and we'll try to do more in the final part of the season."

Milano are expected to get a significant boost in the second half of the season with the addition of Chinese star outside hitter Li Yingying, who's set to join the join the team after a decade representing Tianjin Bohai Bank in her country's national league.

Busto's opposite Josephine Obossa also had a strong night in Milano and came up just five points short of matching Egonu's production with 24 (22 kills, two blocks). Mexican outside hitter Melanie Parra came up next for the visiting side, with 13, all in kills.

With the victory, Milano complete the first half of their 26 regular season matches in third place with 29 points (nine wins, four losses). Busto are also inside the qualification zone for the playoffs, appearing in sixth place with 16 points (five wins, eight losses).

Conegliano and Scandicci win ahead of World Championship trip

Set to represent Italy at the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship in two weeks, league leaders Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and second-placed Savino Del Bene Scandicci triumphed in their last Italian League matches ahead of their trips to Brazil.

Conegliano earned their 14th victory and got to 40 points in the standings on Saturday, when, despite resting some starters, they swept (25-21, 25-21, 25-17) Bartoccini-MC Restauri Perugia on the road. Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak led the team with 17 points, one more than Slovenian outside hitter Fatoumatta Sillah.

On Sunday, Scandicci went on the road and took CBF Balducci HR Macerata down in straight sets (25-15, 26-24, 25-16) to get to 34 points (12 wins, two losses). Star opposite Ekaterina Antropova led the team with 16 points, while German middle blocker Camilla Weitzel added ten.

The first match of the weekend in Italy was held on Saturday, when Igor Gorgonzola Novara visited Honda Cuneo Granda Volley and returned home with all three points after prevailing 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-14).

Three other matches were held on Sunday, and had Megabox Ondulati Del Savio Vallefoglia topping Wash4Green Monviso Volley 3-2 (25-22, 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-12), Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri '76 sweeping (25-23, 25-15, 25-17) Omag-Mt San Giovanni In Marignano and Bergamo overcoming Il Bisonte Firenze also in three sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-22).

The 13th and last leg of the first round of the regular season will have one match on Saturday and another four on Sunday.
