The favorites continue to struggle at the start of the 2025-2026 Lega Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà regular season.

After defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano dropped a point in the first leg and Numia Vero Volley Milano went down in the second, on Wednesday it was time for Savino Del Bene Scandicci to face their first upset in the Italian League.

After collecting six points in their first two regular season matches, last season’s CEV European Champions League runners-up Scandicci were on the road on Wednesday and couldn’t handle an inspired Honda Cuneo Granda Volley, who delivered an outstanding performance to triumph 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 26-24) and claim their second victory in the season.

American outside hitter Erika Pritchard led Cuneo’s triumph, producing 18 points in their victory, with 13 kills and five blocks. Slovenian outside hitter Maša Pucelj and opposite Binto Diop contributed 14 points each.

“It was a perfect performance from the entire team,” Pritchard said. “We worked very hard to be able to play at this level and were great at finding solutions for every set. Now we need to use this victory against an excellent team as motivation for the upcoming matches.”

Scandicci’s Olympic and world champion opposite Ekaterina Antropova also tallied 18 points, registering 14 kills, three aces and one block, but she was the only player on her team to get to double digits in scoring.

Novara beat Chieri

Another undefeated team went down on Wednesday, in the duel involving Igor Gorgonzola Novara and Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76, two sides that were yet to lose. Playing at home, Novara were in control and triumphed 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-20), counting on 14 points (14 kills, one ace) from German outside hitter Lina Alsmeier and 12 from each of Japanese outside hitter Mayu Ishikawa and Americans Amber Igiede and Taylor Mims.

Now the only undefeated team alongside Novara, defending champions Conegliano swept (25-12, 25-19, 25-16) Omag-Mt San Giovanni In Marignano on the road on Wednesday. Swedish star opposite Isabelle Haak led the way with 16 points, two more than Chinese outside hitter Zhu Ting.

Milano, who had lost to Chieri on the weekend, recovered well, taking Megabox Ondulati Savio Vallefoglia down 3-1 (26-24, 19-25, 25-21, 25-16) at home. Star opposite Paola Egonu tallied 25 points (19 kills, three blocks, three aces), while American outside hitter Thalia Lanier added 17.

Two teams got to celebrate their first victories of the season on Wednesday. One of them was Eurotek Laica UYBA Busto Arsizio, who avoided a reverse sweep from Bergamo to triumph 3-2 (25-19, 25-21, 21-25, 16-25, 16-14). Opposite Josephine Obossa played a key role in the result, producing 19 points (15 kills, three blocks, one ace).

Bartoccini-Mc Restauri Perugia had a smoother path to their first win, needing only four sets (25-17, 25-19, 23-25, 25-20) to take down Wash4Green Monviso Volley. Outside hitter Beatrice Gardini was their most prolific offensive player, with 22 points (21 kills, one block) scored.

In another five-setter, Il Bisonte Firenze completed a reverse sweep to overcome CBF Balducci HR Macerata 3-2 (20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-11) and get their second victory in three matches. Dutch outside hitter Jolien Knollema was instrumental in the result, tallying 25 points (23 kills, two blocks).
