Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano (CON) vs. Numia Vero Volley Milano (MZA) women - Final 1-2 #33250464

With international stars on both sides of the net, the duel will take place on Wednesday

Three days after meeting in the final of the 47th edition of the Coppa Italia Frecciarossa, Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and Numia Vero Volley Milano are set to battle again, this time in the Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà.

The duel between the two best-ranked teams in the Italian League, which is set to take place on Wednesday, at 20:45 local time (19:45 GMT), at the Palaverde, in Villorba, is one of the seven matches set to happen during the week as part of the ninth leg of the second round of the regular season.

The rivalry between the teams has grown a lot over the last four years. In the period, they have met in nine finals – three editions of the Coppa Italia (2022-2023, 2023-2024, 2024-2025), two of the Lega Femminile (2021-2022, 2022-2023) and the Supercoppa (2023, 2024) and one of the European Champions League (2023-2024) and the Courmayeur Cup (2024) -, with Conegliano prevailing every time.

The Panthers have been unstoppable in the 2024-2025 club season, having won the 36 matches they played across all competitions. In the Italian League, they have a perfect campaign of 21 wins in as many matches, with just four sets dropped, which has put them at the top of the standings with 63 points.

“I think we just have an amazing team spirit,” said Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak, the MVP of the Coppa Italia. “We love each other’s company and we have great staff and great organization. That’s what has been making us that good. We’ve been practicing really hard, we have a good mentality and we enjoy playing.”

Milano are currently in a strong run of form in the Italian League, having won eight of their last nine matches in the tournament. Their sequence of positive results has taken them from fourth to second place in the standings, with 50 points (17 wins, four losses).

Even though they’ve established themselves as the main threat to Conegliano’s domination in Italy in the last half-decade, Milano have consistently struggled against their opponents, who triumphed in 32 of the 37 duels between the teams, including the last 11.

This season alone, the teams have met at the Supercoppa, the Lega Femminile, the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship and the Coppa Italia. On Sunday’s encounter, Milano strongly challenged Conegliano in a never-ended first set, only falling at 37-35, but couldn’t keep the same rhythm during the entire match.

“This match will be nothing like the Coppa Italia final,” said Milano’s head coach Stefano Lavarini. “This is a league match, in which we’ll face the leaders on the road and the points in play are of great importance to us. We’ve been progressing in every aspect and are super motivated to face them again.”

The match also features an interesting duel of strong teams which were built in different ways, as while Conegliano heavily rely on international stars such as Brazil’s Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães, China’s Zhu Ting, Sweden’s Isabelle Haak and Poland’s Joanna Wołosz, Milano have the core of the Italian national team that won gold at last year’s Paris Olympics, including opposite Paola Egonu, middle blocker Anna Danesi, setter Alessia Orro and outside hitter Miriam Sylla.
