Conegliano, who triumphed in the last seven editions of the Italian League, got to 11 points in the standings, catching Igor Gorgonzola Novara, the only other undefeated team in the tournament. They, however, have a better set ratio (12-2 to 12-3) and appear in first place.
After playing limited minutes in Conegliano's first three matches in the Italian League this season, Brazilian star outside hitter Gabriela 'Gabi' Guimarães stepped up and led the team to victory with 16 points, all in kills. She received the match's MVP award.
"It's not easy to come back after the defeat we had at the Supercoppa," Gabi said. "But we knew it wasn't going to be an easy season, and we talked a lot about it. I'm proud of the energy we showed today and of how aggressive we were from the start. But there's a lot for us to improve, starting with our serving."
Swedish star opposite Isabelle Haak matched Gabi's production with 15 kills and one block, while middle blocker Marina Lubian added 14 (ten kills, three blocks, one ace).
Belarusian outside hitter Anna Davyskiba was the only Monviso player to get to double digits in scoring - she registered 11 points, with eight kills, two aces and one block.
