Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano continue in a league of their own in the 2024-2025 Lega Volley Femminile Serie A1 Tigotà and not even a Paola Egonu-led Numia Vero Volley Milano was able to stop them.

The two best teams in the Italian League met on Friday, in the opening match of the ninth leg of the regular season, and, despite facing a record-setting opposing crowd of 12,626 people at the Unipol Forum, in Assago, the Panthers managed to walk away with an impressive 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-15) road victory.

Fighting for their seventh straight and eighth overall national title, Conegliano secured their tenth victory in the 2024-2025 season having dropped just two sets and are more comfortable than ever at the top of the standings, with 30 points. Their closest chasers are exactly Milano, who continue with 22 points (eight wins, two losses).

If in the teams' most recent meeting in September, Conegliano needed all five sets to overcome their rivals in the Supercoppa, this time the defending champions were dominant from start to finish, giving Milano no chance.

The 20 points (16 kills, four blocks) scored by star opposite Isabelle Haak were instrumental for Conegliano’s sweep, but the team also benefited from stellar performances of star outside hitter Gabriela ‘Gabi’ Guimarães and veteran middle blocker Cristina Chirichella, who added ten points each. The Brazilian was awarded as the match’s MVP.

“We’re very happy,” setter Joana Wołosz said. “We expected a very tough match and it was a great spectacle for the many fans who came here, which is very important for our sport. I thought it was one of our best performances in the season and we can see that the team is still growing. We need to keep working hard and playing like this.”

Getting just her second start in the season after she returned from surgery, Egonu led Milano with 15 points (13 kills, two blocks). Fellow Olympic champion Miriam Sylla scored eight, two more than Dutch outside hitter Nika Daalderop.

“Conegliano showed that right now they’re a tier above us,” Milano’s captain Anna Danesi reflected. “Of course, they are a very strong team, but we didn’t fight back and made things easier for them. Our service wasn’t efficient and they could do what they wanted to do offensively. This match showed that what we’re doing is not enough, so we need to get back to the gym and work even harder.”
