Competing in the Italian elite for the first time in club history, Omag had a difficult start to their campaign, losing their first six matches without winning a single set. They took the first step to turn their season around last weekend, when they surprisingly dominated sixth-placed Honda Cuneo Granda Volley to a three-set victory at home and triumphed for the first time in the Lega Femminile.
The three points earned with the victory were a nice first step, but still weren't enough to take Omag out of the bottom of the standings. That goal can be accomplished this week, though, as a three or four-set victory over Firenze could potentially get them out of the relegation zone, passing Wash4green Monviso Volley and Bergamo, which have five points each.
"It will be a battle," outside hitter Anna Piovesan said of the match against Firenze. "They are a very experienced team, which has played some long matches and tie-breakers this season. I'm looking forward to playing against (libero) Sofia Valoppi, who was part of our team that won the second division last season."
