Allianz Vero Volley Milano and defending champions Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano improved their situations in the 2023-2024 Lega Pallavolo Femminile Serie A standings on Wednesday, when they went on the court to play their fourth-round matches that had to be postponed because of their presence at the Italian Supercoppa.

While Milano moved up to third place in the standings with 20 points (seven wins, one loss) following their victory over Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri, Imoco, who topped Roma Volley Club, are now clear at the top with 24 points (eight wins), creating a three-point separation from second-placed Igor Gorgonzola Novara.

Star opposite Paola Egonu led Milano in their 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-16) home win over Chieri on Wednesday. The Italian superstar was the match’s top scorer with 19 points (17 kills, two blocks), overcoming Chieri’s Greek opposite Martha Anthouli, who produced 15 (14 kills, one block).

A new face with Milano just like Egonu, Dutch outside hitter Nika Daalderop was the only other player to reach double digits in scoring with 11 (nine kills, one ace, one block) and took home the MVP award.

“It was a big team win for us,” middle blocker Laura Heyrman, who registered six points, said. “We entered the court very focused and were able to maintain that mentally until the end. This was a good match for us to build from going forward.”

Milano will be back on the court on Sunday, at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT), when they go on the road against Roma.

Imoco continue perfect

Later on Wednesday, Imoco topped Roma 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-20) to maintain their perfect record in the Italian League. Middle blocker Sarah Fahr, who had a nine-point performance with seven kills, one ace and one block, was the match’s MVP.

Imoco’s main scorers were Swedish star opposite Isabelle Haak (eight kills, five aces) and American outside hitter Khalia Lanier (11 kills, one block, one ace), with 13 points each.

“Our goal coming here was to remain undefeated, get the three points and continue at the top of the standings and we’re happy what we accomplished it,” opposite Alice Piani, who scored two points, reflected. “We had a few errors here and there but remained organized against a strong Roma team. We have been able to rotate the players a lot and everyone that comes in wants to help the team.”
