Since 2016-2017, Imoco have claimed the Supercoppa title a whopping seven times, only failing to do it in 2017-2018, then they fell to Igor Gorgonzola Novara and finished second. Milano, who played in the event for the first time, were the third different opponent beaten by the reigning Italian champions in the final.
Libero Monica De Gennaro and Dutch middle blocker Robin De Kruijf are the only players to be present in each of Imoco’s seven Supercoppa victories.
Polish star setter and Imoco’s captain Joanna Wołosz was one of the big names of the team’s victory, taking home the match’s MVP award. Besides orchestrating the champions’ offense and leading her teammates on the court, the 33-year-old setter also produced four points, with two aces, one kill and one block.
“I’m so happy and proud of my team,” Wołosz celebrated. “Milano is a truly well-built team, with so many stars, and I’m very happy with this result. We’re coming from a long summer with our national teams and are not at our best yet. I believe we made some unusual mistakes, but we reacted and played an excellent match.”
