After an exciting, jaw-dropping opening match on Wednesday, the 2023-2024 Lega Pallavolo Femminile Serie A Tigotà Finals continue this weekend, with Savino Del Bene Scandicci and Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano writing the second chapter of what could be a historic five-match battle for the Italian title.

Carrying a 1-0 lead in the series after their massive five-set victory during the week, Scandicci will play in front of their fans in the Scudetto Finals for the first time in club history on Saturday, at 20:30 local time (18:30 GMT), and they want to keep their momentum going to get even closer to the trophy.

Expecting a sold-out crowd at Palazzo Wanny, the team from Firenze faces match two as a critical one in the series as another victory over the defending champions would put them in the driver’s seat in the Finals, needing just one more win in the remaining three matches to claim the Italian title.

In order to extend their ten-match winning streak, Scandicci will need another massive performance from opposite Ekaterina Antropova, the second-best scorer in the Italian League, who led the team with 31 points on Wednesday.

Scandicci will enter the court more confident after taking Imoco down for just the sixth time in history, but also knowing that there’s still a lot of work to be done.

It’s like we won the first set in a match that will very likely go to five. Our goal is to play even better in match two. We’re happy that we got to win the first match, but there’s still a lot to happen and we haven’t done anything. Massimo Barbolini - Scandicci’s head coach

Imoco looking to limit errors

After losing at home for the first time in the season, Imoco know their dream of winning a sixth-straight and seventh-overall Italian title heavily depends on the outcome of Saturday’s match in Firenze.

The Panthers understand their performance on Wednesday was severely hampered by their high number of errors (26) and will focus on fixing this to challenge Scandicci on the road on Saturday.

Our errors have cost us way too much on the first match and that’s something we have to improve for the next ones. But we entered the Finals knowing it was a going to be a long series, and losing one match is part of it. We’ll be ready for another battle on Saturday. Joanna Wolosz – Imoco’s setter

Despite the upset, Imoco had the top scorer in Wednesday’s match, as Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak left the court with an impressive 34 points.
