The Lega Pallavolo Femminile Serie A1 is Italy's top women's league. Fourteen clubs are participating in the 2022/23 league, which is split into two phases. The first phase, also known as the Regular Season, runs from October to April and features two legs, with each club playing all the other clubs in the league twice. At the end of the Regular Season, the top eight clubs progress to the Playoffs, which include quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Established in 1946, it is considered as one of the longest-running women’s national leagues in Europe. Its clubs have achieved significant success in the continental club competitions.

Amatori Bergamo won the inaugural title and became one of the most renowned clubs in the country. Bergamo are the second most successful club in the league's history with eight titles, behind Teodora Pallavolo Ravena who have won 11 titles.

In the last decade, four clubs in the current field of teams this season have won the Italian national championship title at least once. Busto Arsizio took the title in the 2011-2012 season and Casalmaggiore ruled the 2014-2015 season.

Current rivals Conegliano and Novara bagged the titles in 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons, respectively. Their rivalry continued the following season and has since been dominated by Conegliano for four consecutive runs.

The other teams that have appeared in the final four recently include Scandicci, Busto Arsizio and Monza.
