Robin de Kruijf's blocking was key to Conegliano's win over Busto Arsizio in the semifinals of the Italian Cup.

Defending cup holders Prosecco Doc Imoco Volley Conegliano will face Igor Gorgonzola Novara in the Italian women's Cup final on Thursday evening in Rome after they defeated Unet E-Work Busto Arsizio 3-1 (25-16, 24-26, 25-16, 25-23) on the back of a high-scoring performance by Paola Egonu in the only of the two semifinals to be actually played on Wednesday.

Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri registered four positive Covid-19 cases in the pre-match testing on Wednesday and had to forefeit the second semifinal to Novara.

Egonu collected 32 points, including a whopping six aces to earn the MVP of the match award, but Conegliano also put up some massive blocking with six stuffs by the Netherlands' Robin de Kruijf and another four by setter Joanna Wolosz of Poland.

Canada's Alexa Gray was Busto Arsizio best scorer on 20 points.

Conegliano blew a 24-21 lead in the second set and failed to convert all three of their set points as Busto Arsizio denied them a two-set lead.

Gray had also led Busto Arsizio to a 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-19) upset of Savino Del Bene Scandicci earlier in the week in a remaining quarterfinal match that had originally been postponed and rescheduled. The Canadian star had scored a match high of 23 points with Camilla Mingardi adding another 22 (including three aces) and Serbia's Jovana Stevanovic producing six blocks.

The final on Thursday, starting at 17:30 local time (16:30 GMT) is a rematch of the 2021 edition when Conegliano beat Novara 3-1.

Prior to the grand final on Thursday in Rome, Omag-Mt San Giovanni in Marignano will play Banca Valsabbina Millenium Brescia in the final of the A2 Cup, at 13:30 local time (12:30 GMT).
