Yang Shuming, the captain of the newly crowned inaugural U17 volleyball champions China, was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the first FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship that came to a conclusion in Lima on Saturday. For the talented young opposite it was the second MVP award this summer. Earlier this summer, when she was still just 15 years old, Yang Shuming also earned the highest individual honour at the AVC U18 Women’s Volleyball Asian Championship in Thailand.

Yang also led a line-up of seven stars in the making, who were honoured on the symbolic U17 World Championship Dream Team during the awarding ceremony at the end of the historic competition in the Peruvian capital on Saturday evening:
Best Setter: Zhang Zixuan (China)
Best Opposite: Yang Shuming (China)
Best Outside Hitters: Saya Nakayama (Japan) and Ludovica Tosini (Italy)
Best Middle Blockers: Chen Xiaohui (China) and Alice Guerra (Italy)
Best Libero: Kokoro Semba (Japan)
Yang Shumin produced 24 points as the best scorer of the final match, in which China celebrated a straight-set victory over Japan. Across China’s seven matches (22 sets) played at the championship, the 1.93m-tall opposite tallied a total of 98 points, including 12 aces, three kill blocks and 83 kills in attack.
“I am very excited because it's the first world championship!” Yang told the FIVB. “China is a world power and I dream about being an Olympic champion one day!”
