The nine points earned with the positive results obtained over the last three days in São Paulo take Scandicci to the semifinals as the first-placed team in Pool A, and set up a duel with Brazilian side Dentil Praia Clube, who were second in Pool B. Their Thursday victory also eliminated Alianza from contention, limiting the fight for the second Pool A spot in the semifinals to Brazil's Osasco São Cristovão Saúde and Kazakhstan's Zhetysu VC, who play the last pool play match of the event later at 20:30 local time (23:30 UTC) - whoever qualifies will face Conegliano in the semifinals.

American outside hitter Sarah Franklin, who had produced only five points across the team's first two matches in Brazil, stepped up to have her best performance in the tournament so far, registering 14 (13 kills, one ace) against the Peruvians. She matched the output of Olympic and world champion opposite Ekaterina Antropova, who tallied 11 kills, two aces and one block to get to 54 points scored, the highest mark in the tournament so far.

"Finishing first in our pool and not losing any sets was an important first step for us," Antropova commented. "We've been trying to create our game and raise our rhythm, and I think we still have a lot to grow on. I hope we can continue improving our game because we still have a lot to show."

In their final match in Brazil, Alianza had Argentine national team outside hitter Elina Rodríguez as their leading scorer, with 13 points (12 kills, one ace). French opposite Maëva Orlé came next with eight (seven kills, one block).

Qualified after their second-place finish in the South American Club Championship, Alianza were the first Peruvian team to appear in the event. They made history in São Paulo, beating Zhetysu in the second round of pool play to earn their country's first-ever victory in the tournament.
