Second victory in São Paulo takes Scandicci to Club Worlds Final Four 

Italian powerhouse Savino Del Bene Scandicci are set to compete in the semifinals of the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship in their first appearance in the event after they secured their second victory in the 2025 edition of the tournament on Wednesday.

The Europeans had the Brazilian fans against them at the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu in their Pool A duel with hosts Osasco São Cristovão Saúde, but kept their cool and triumphed 3-0 (31-29, 25-22, 25-15) at the conclusion of the second day of matches in São Paulo.

With six points and no set dropped ahead of the third and final round of pool play matches in Brazil, Scandicci can now only be caught by Osasco, who are second with three points. Their opponents on Thursday, Peru's Club Alianza Lima, who are third, also with three points, would continue behind them in the set ratio tie-breaker even if they won in straight sets. With that, the second spot continues open between Brazilians, Peruvians and Kazakhstan's Zhetysu VC, who have no points yet, but could still pass both South American contenders before the end of pool play.

Scandicci relied on two of their Olympic medalists to get the job done against Osasco. American outside hitter Avery Skinner, who took bronze in the Paris 2024 Games, led the team with 22 points (20 kills, two blocks), while opposite Ekaterina Antropova, who was part of the Italian squad that won gold at the French capital last year, added another 21, with 15 kills, four blocks and two aces.

Still alive in the tournament, the 2012 world champions Osasco had the match's top scorer in Argentine opposite Bianca Cugno - the 22-year-old registered 27 points, with 26 kills and one ace. American outside hitter Caitie Bard was the only other player on the Brazilian side to get to double digits in scoring with ten points, all in kills.

The definition in Pool A will happen on Thursday, when Scandicci and Alianza clash at 17:00 local time (20:00 UTC) and Osasco and Zhetysu battle at 20:30 (23:30 UTC).
