Dentil Praia’s experienced setter Macris Carneiro in action in the opening match of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship

Brazil’s Dentil Praia Clube Uberlandia swept the opening match of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship in Sao Paulo on Tuesday. The South American champions got Pool B action underway with a straight-set victory over African champions Zamalek Giza of Egypt.

Dentil Praia Clube Uberlandia dominated on the court throughout the match and produced a convincing 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-15) shutout of Zamalek Giza. The Brazilian side outperformed their Egyptian opponents on all scoring counts –by 4-1 in serving aces, by 8-5 in kill blocks, by 10-11 in unforced errors and, most eloquently, by 52-27 in spike kills.

Two substitute players emerged as the best scorers of the match. Bulgarian outside hitter Maria Koleva, who entered the court late into the first set, delivered 13 points, all in swings at a 65% success rate, including the first set winner. Middle blocker Milka Marcilia Medeiros Silva, who subbed in for the start of the second set, spiked 12 points at an impressive 92% success rate and put up one kill block. Opposite Monique Marinho Pavao delivered the second set winner, and later finished off the match with an off-the-net off-the-block hit for the last point, signing off with a total of eight points. Her 21-year-old counterpart Toqaallah Eassa (Tokka) led Zamalek’s scorers with 11 points.

Next on the Club World Championship program is the second Pool B match, between Italy’s Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and USA’s Orlando Valkyries, serving off at 13:30 local time (16:30 UTC).
