UPCN San Juan had to settle for silver in their last tournament before the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship which takes place next week after the eight-time Argentinean champions finished second in the Copa Centenario on Thursday.

The exhibition tournament, played to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Club Ciudad de Buenos Aires, was won by hosts Ciudad Voley, who defeated UPCN in the five-set final (27-25, 23-25, 15-25, 25-20, 15-9).

It was the second time Ciudad came out on top against UPCN in the recently-started club season. In November, the team led by Hernan Ferraro, who coached the Argentinean women’s national team at the Tokyo Olympics, triumphed in the Argentinean Supercup in San Juan.

San Lorenzo finished third in the two-day tournament after they prevailed over Defensores de Banfield in straight sets (25-16, 25-8, 25-22) in the bronze medal match.

A bronze medallist at the 2014 and 2015 editions of the Men's Club World Championship, UPCN are in Pool B in this year’s tournament, which will be played in Betim, Brazil, from December 7-11. The Argentineans will play their opening match against Brazil’s FUNVIC – Fundação Universitária Vida Cristã on Tuesday and will return to the court on Wednesday to face defending champions Cucine Lube Civitanova of Italy.

All matches of the Club World Championship will be streamed live on Volleyball TV.
