Argentina brought defending champions Italy’s reign to an end on Tuesday, earning a place in the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Boys’ U17 World Championship with a 3-1 victory that provided the defining result of the Round of 16 in Doha, Qatar.
Italy had arrived in the knockout stage unbeaten after topping Pool B, but they were not the only pool winners to see a perfect run end. Bulgaria, first in Pool D, raced to a two-set lead against Venezuela before the South Americans turned the match around for a 3-2 win and their own place in the last eight.
France, Brazil and Iran carried their unbeaten records into the quarterfinals, while Poland, Romania and Pakistan also advanced to complete the eight-team field.
