The inaugural edition of the AVC Women’s Champion League is just about to get underway in the Philippines on Sunday and it will all be streamed live on VBTV! The rebranded tournament, previously known as the Asian Women's Club Volleyball Championship, is set to hand out the annual continental club honors, including two tickets to the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship for the champions and the runners-up.

12 women’s club teams representing 10 different federations will take to the court at the 10,000-seat PhilSports Arena in Pasig, vying for their shares of the USD 50,000 in prize money. They are split into four round-robin pools of three, with the pool stage scheduled over the three days from Sunday, April 20, to Tuesday and the matches serving off at 10:00 local time (02:00 UTC), at 13:00 (05:00), at 16:00 (08:00) and at 19:00 (11:00) on each competition day.

The teams of Philippines’ Creamline Cool Smashers Pasig, Kazakhstan’s Zhetysu Taldyqorgan and continental-level rookies Al Naser Amman of Jordan will compete in Pool A. Zhetysu has medaled four times in the Asian Club Volleyball Championship history, but not since 2014, while Creamline Cool Smashers are the host nation’s most successful team with 10 titles from the various Premier Volleyball League conferences since 2017.

Another Filipino team, Petro Gazz Angels Manila, will face Chinese Taipei’s Kaohsiung Taipower and Hip Hing Hong Kong in Pool B. Taipower and Hip Hong will meet in the historic AVC Champions League opening match on Sunday morning.

Beijing Baic Motor of China and Saipa Tehran of Iran will take to the court for the second match on the program, a Pool C fixture. The pool also features VTV Bình Dien Long An of Vietnam.

Last year’s Asian Club Volleyball Championship bronze medalist Nakhon Ratchasima QminC of Thailand will compete in Pool D. The first two teams of that pool to get into action on Sunday are PLDT High Speed Hitters Manila of the Philippines and Queensland Pirates of Australia.

The top two teams from the final standings in each pool will qualify for the crossed quarterfinals to be played on Thursday and Friday, with the teams from Pool A taking on those from Pool D and the teams from Pool B facing those from Pool C. The semifinals will be played on Saturday and the inaugural set of medals will be handed to the honorees on Sunday, with the gold medal showdown scheduled at 19:00 (11:00).

The idea for the rebrand of the top-flight Asian continental competition was put forward with a plan to reshape the public perception of AVC events, re-engage audience and create more sponsorship opportunities. With the launch of the rebranded competition, the AVC has reached a new milestone on its road to growth and development of volleyball in Asia.
