Which 17 men’s teams are already World Cup bound

The first stage of the qualification process for the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup is over and 17 of the 32 participating teams are already known. With defending champions Italy and host nation Poland automatically qualified, each of the five continental championships held by the continental confederations in September awarded three tickets to the World Cup and they were claimed by Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Finland, France, Iran, Japan, Korea, Slovenia, Tunisia and the United States.

Champions and hosts

The first two berths at the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup were reserved for Italy as the winners of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship and for Poland, who will welcome the 2027 edition as tournament hosts.

AVC

Japan and Iran lived up to the expectations and reached the final of the AVC Men's Volleyball Asian Championship in Fukuoka, Japan. Securing a top-three finish, they also booked the first tickets to the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup, besides those of Italy and Poland. On the following day, Japan defended the Asian crown, Iran finished runners-up, while Korea claimed the bronze and qualified for World Cup 2027.

NORCECA

USA, Canada and Cuba booked their tickets to Poland 2027 after they claimed the top three spots, in that order, at the NORCECA men’s Volleyball Continental Championship in Moncton, Canada.

CSV

The South American berths went to Brazil, Argentina and Chile. These three teams took gold, silver and bronze at the CSV Men’s Volleyball South American Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and qualified for World Cup 2027.

CEV

When they advanced to the semifinals of the CEV Men’s Volleyball European Championship - held in Bulgaria, Czechia, Finland and Italy - the teams of France, Finland and Slovenia also gained passage to the World Cup, because the fourth EuroVolley semifinalist – eventual continental champions Poland – were already qualified for the World Cup as hosts.

CAVB

Tunisia and Cameroon progressed to the gold medal showdown at the CAVB Men's Volleyball African Nations Championship in Tunis to secure two of the three continental tickets to the World Cup in Poland. The hosts went on to triumph as continental champions, Cameroon settled for silver, while Algeria managed to take the bronze and the third African vacancy at the World Cup.

The remaining 15 berths at the 2027 FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Cup will be awarded based on the positions of the teams not yet qualified in the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Ranking.
