Ten-time African champions Tunisia travelled to Kigali on Saturday morning to compete at the African Men’s Volleyball Championship in Rwanda’s capital city of Kigali from September 7 to 15.

Tunisia were the only African contingent at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games men’s volleyball tournament, where they fought hard against the world’s top teams, including eventual medallists France, ROC and Argentina in the preliminary round.

Wassim Ben Tara, who was Tunisia’s top scorer in Tokyo, will lead the team to defend their continental title with teammates Mehdi Ben Cheikh, Khaled Ben Slimane, Mohamed Ali Ben Othman, Omar Agrebi, Ilyes Karamosly, Ismail Moalla, Salim Mbarki, Hamza Nagga, Ahmed Kadhi, Saddem Hemissi, Ali Bongui, Yassine Kassis and Mohamed Ayech.
The reigning African champions mentored by Antonio Giacobbe will head the 16-team field and will compete with 2019 podium placers Egypt and Cameroon, Tanzania, Niger, Burkina Faso, Burundi, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, South Sudan, Uganda and hosts Rwanda for the 2021 continental title and the two available World Championship spots.

For the host nation, Rwanda coach Paulo De Tarso Milagres announced a 14-man roster includes Patrick Akumuntu Kavalo, Vincent Dusabimana, Wickliff Dusenge, Emile Karera, Ivan Mahoro, Nelson Murangwa, Ronald Muvara, Yves Mutabazi, Flavien Ndamukunda, Sylvestre Ndayisaba, John Nkurunziza, Simon Rwigema, Placide Sibomana and Lawrence Yakan Guma.
