The seventh leg of the Polish PlusLiga regular season has already begun with PGE Projekt Warsaw’s five-set home win over Asseco Resovia Rzeszow on Wednesday, but the remaining seven fixtures of the leg are coming up in the programme from Friday, October 18, to Sunday, October 20.

In this weekend’s highlight, a clash between two teams among the top eight in the current standings, Cuprum Stilon Gorzow Wielkopolski and Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj, is set to open Saturday’s programme at 14:45 local time (12:45 UTC) at Arena Gorzow. Cuprum’s three-match winning streak was put to an end as they visited ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle in a postponed fourth-leg game earlier this week, but they are still in the top half of the table with a positive balance, eighth place on 10 points and 4-2 win-loss record. Meanwhile, the defending champions from Jastrzebie-Zdroj stand third on 16 and 5-1. Their only setback came out of their visit to Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa two weeks ago.

Cuprum Stilon and Jastrzebski Wegiel have previously met 23 times in official matches and the mighty Hawks have won 17 of these games, against six wins for the squad from Gorzow Wielkopolski. Cuprum’s most recent win over Jastrzebski Wegiel dates back to an away game in November 2022.

As many as three of the seven players selected on the previous sixth leg’s dream team were from one of these two clubs – Cuprum Stilon’s Estonian outside hitter Robert Taht and middle blocker Seweryn Lipinski, and Jastrzebski Wegiel’s opposite Lukasz Kaczmarek.

The PlusLiga weekend will open with two matches on Friday.

At 17:30 (15:30), Slepsk Malow Suwalki will host ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle. The home team are in 12th place on 7 points and a 2-4 win-loss record, while fourth-placed ZAKSA will be looking for their fifth victory to improve their 13-point record.

In Friday’s late match, at 20:30 (18:30), Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will also look for their fifth win as they welcome 14th-placed Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, who have won only one of their six matches so far this season and collected just 3 points. The hosts of the game are fifth on 12 and 5-2.

“Unfortunately, we started this season badly. I hope that now, when new head coach Marcin Mierzejewski takes over the team, things will be better. We're starting a new chapter. We have to be united during the match. We need to give each other positive energy.” Pawel Cieslik, middle blocker of Indykpol AZS Olsztyn

PGE GiEK SKRA Belchatow, currently sixth on 11 and 4-2, will entertain 11th-placed Nowak-Mosty MKS Bedzin, on 7 and 2-4, on Saturday at 17:30 (15:30). In that evening’s late game, at 20:30 (18:30), GKS Katowice will host BOGDANKA LUK Lublin with the difficult task to earn their second win and the even more difficult task to hand the opponents their first defeat of the season. Lublin are the only unbeaten team in the PlusLiga and stand in second place on 16 and 6-0, while Katowice are second from the bottom on 3 and 1-6.

Another two matches will be played on Sunday. Ninth-placed Trefl Gdansk (8, 2-4) will welcome 13th-placed PSG Stal Nysa (4, 1-4) at 14:45 (12:45), while seventh-placed Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa (10, 4-2) will entertain the only winless team in the league, Ukraine’s Barkom Kazhany Lviv (0, 0-6), at 20:30 (18:30).
