The reigning Pro Volleyball Federation champions, the Supernovas had the best campaign among the eight teams competing in the league during the regular season, advancing to the playoffs as the top-seeded side with 21 wins and seven losses – they are undefeated in their last four matches.

The team from Nebraska has outside hitter Brooke Nuneviller as one of their most important players this season – she ranks fifth in points scored in the league, with 413. Other standouts for the Supernovas are middle blocker Kaitlyn Hord, who’s second in blocks (82), Puerto Rican setter Natalia Valentín-Anderson, who’s fourth in assists (871), and Colombian libero Camila Gómez, who’s fifth in digs (349).

“I think the key for us in the playoffs is knowing who we are and respecting the opponents because they are really competitive,” head coach Laura Kuhn. “And we should also keep focusing on our serving. We did that in the last two matches, and it worked out very well.”

Their opponents, the Ignite, were the last team to secure a spot in the playoffs, which they did in the second-to-last week of the regular season. The team from Indiana ended their campaign with 13 wins and 15 losses and lost back-to-back matches in the final week of the regular season.

The league leaders in assists (1,514) and kills (1,594), the Ignite count on the steady hands of setter Sydney Hilley, the player with the most assists (1,277) in the PVF, to guide them in the Championship. Opposite Azhani Tealer, who ranks third in the league in points (464), and libero Elena Scott, who is fourth in digs (374), are also capable of making a difference for the team.

“This league is really good, so getting to the playoffs in itself is something to be proud of,” Hilley said. “Obviously, we have the goal of winning it all, but so does every team that’s there. We are just going to go out and give it everything we’ve got, enjoy this team and season for as long as we can.”

The Supernovas won three of the four matches involving the teams during the regular season, but the Ignite triumphed in the most recent of them, sweeping the defending champions on the road in March.

Vibe and Valkyries clash for a spot in the final

The second-best team in the PVF regular season, the Vibe produced a campaign of 19 wins and nine losses to make it to the playoffs. The team was in excellent form in the second half of the regular season, setting a new league record with 13 consecutive victories, but dropped their last match before the start of the playoffs.

The team from Atlanta has tremendous serving power, leading the league in that area with 129 aces, and is very strong on defense, also ranking first with 1,951 digs. Individually, outside hitter Leah Edmond, who’s second in points (496) and aces (41), libero Morgan Hentz, who leads the league in digs (508), and setter Marlie Monserez, who’s third in assists (998), are among their standouts.

The Valkyries had the third-best campaign in the regular season, registering 18 wins and ten losses. The team from Florida heads into the playoffs on a high, having won their five most recent matches.

The team ranks second in both aces (124) and kills (1,543) and has Thai setter Pornpun Guedpard, who appears in second place in assists (1,082), as one of their stars. The Valkyries also have the league’s top scorer in Puerto Rican opposite Brittany Abercrombie (503 points) and its best server, middle blocker Natalie Foster, who fired 64 aces.

The Valkyries and the Vibe met four times with the regular season and split wins, with the team from Orlando prevailing in the first two encounters and the Atlanta side coming out on top in the two more recent ones.
