Brazilian national team middle blocker Lorena Viezel delivered a strong performance on Tuesday and helped her team SESC RJ Flamengo extend their winning streak in the country’s Women’s Superliga to four matches.
One of the team’s main signings for the 2024-2025 season, the 25-year-old Lorena tallied 13 points as Flamengo took the win in their first match at the iconic Maracanãzinho stadium on Tuesday, beating defending champions Gerdau Minas 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-13, 25-23).

Recognized as the best player on the court, the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship silver medalist had a solid display on both sides of the ball, registering five kills and two aces to go with her match-high six blocks. Her presence at the net helped Flamengo slow down Minas’ superstar middle Thaisa Menezes, who left the court with just seven points.
“This victory crowns a very special moment for our team,” she said. “We prepared really well for this match and were able to do exactly what we planned. I’m very happy to see my improvement and the team’s progress, we’re doing a great job of helping each other in difficult moments.
