Los Angeles 2028 Olympic hosts USA

With all five women’s volleyball continental qualifying events now over, the first stage of the qualification process for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games women’s volleyball competition is complete, and half of the 12 participating teams at LA 2028 are now known. In addition to hosts USA, the teams of Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Thailand and Turkiye have booked their spots at the Games in two years.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The United States are automatically qualified for Los Angeles 2028 as the host nation. It will be the third time they host the Olympic volleyball events, after Los Angeles 1984 and Atlanta 1996. It will be the 12th consecutive and 14th overall time the American women compete at the Olympics. They have medaled at each of the previous five editions, with silver from Paris 2024. They Olympic medal collection features one gold (2021), four silvers and two bronzes.

CANADA

Canada earned the first spot at LA 2028 (besides USA) by winning the NORCECA Women's Volleyball Continental Olympic Qualifier in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The Canadian women’s national team will play at the Olympics for the first time since Atlanta 1996. They made their Olympic debut at home, at Montreal 1976, and also played at Los Angeles 1984. So, their fourth Olympic appearance will once again be on the North American continent.

THAILAND

Thailand's women's national team qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics after winning the 2026 AVC Women's Volleyball Asian Championship in Tianjin, China. It was a historic achievement as the country will compete at the Games for the very first time in either gender.

EGYPT

Egypt triumphed as African women’s volleyball champions and earned qualification for Los Angeles 2028 to compete at an Olympic Games women’s volleyball event for the first time in history as well. The Egyptian team topped the podium at the CAVB Women's Volleyball African Nations Championship in Nairobi, Kenya.

TURKIYE

Turkiye triumphed as European champions and booked their spot at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games women’s volleyball event. At home in Istanbul, they won the CEV Women’s Volleyball European Championship (CEV Trendyol EuroVolley 2026), co-hosted with Azerbaijan, Czechia and Sweden. At the last edition of the Olympic Games, Turkiye achieved their best result – fourth place at Paris 2024. Now they are heading to LA 2028 for their third consecutive and fourth overall Olympic appearance.

BRAZIL

Brazil dominated this year's CSV Women’s Volleyball South American Championship at home in Rio de Janeiro and qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The South American powerhouse will play at its 13th Olympics in a row, arriving in LA as the bronze medalists of the previous edition at Paris 2024. Brazil has two titles, one silver and three bronzes on their Olympic record.

The next three Olympic tickets will be issued to the three highest-placed teams at next year’s 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup in Canada and USA among those that are not qualified yet.

The last three vacancies at the LA 2028 women’s volleyball tournament will be allocated through the FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Ranking at the close of the 2028 Volleyball Nations League Preliminary Phase.
