George and partner Saymon didn't lose a set during their campaign in Mexico

George Wanderley and Saymon Barbosa continue to reap the benefits of their victory at last week’s Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Veracruz Challenge.

Besides securing them a spot at the upcoming FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship, their first title as a team also bumped the Brazilians up in the FIVB World Rankings following its latest update, on Monday.

A new team on the Beach Pro Tour in 2025, George and Saymon headed to Mexico in 33rd place in the Ranking, having accumulated 3,720 points in nine tournaments together. Their victory in Veracruz was worth 800 points, and they were able to net 500 of them, bringing their total up to 4,220, good enough to have them in 24th place in the World Ranking.

The two teams that joined them on the podium in Mexico also benefited from their strong results and moved up in the Ranking. American Olympians Miles Evans and Chase Budinger, who took silver, saw the 760 points earned with the second-place finish elevate their total to 4,780, taking them from 23rd to 20th place after the update.

Swiss Yves Haussener and Julian Friedli, who took bronze, made a similar move. The 720 points collected with the third-place finish are the most they got in a tournament in the last year, and moved them from 35th to 31st place with a new total of 4,060.

On the women’s side, the victory of Dutch Raisa Schoon and Katja Stam made little immediate impact on the Ranking, but got the Europeans in a better position to keep moving up after a long period of absence. Because of a back injury sustained by Stam, the two-time Olympians didn’t get to play together for most of the 2025 season and now have only three valid results, ranking 104th with 1,480 points – 800 of which were earned in Veracruz.

Silver medalists Corinne Quiggle and Chloe Loreen of the United States also moved up with their first medal as partners. The Americans managed to add 760 points to their total and are now the 50th-best team on the planet with 2,660 points, after starting the week in 72nd place.

FIVB Beach Volleyball World Ranking - Women

Bronze medalists Maria Gonzalez and Allanis Navas of Puerto Rico took an even bigger leap after their performance in Mexico, going from 66th to 42nd in the Ranking. With the bronze won in the first Beach Pro Tour event they competed in 2025, the Caribbean collected 720 points, bringing their new total up to 2,896.

The Veracruz Challenge also helped Czechs Markéta Svozilová and Marie-Sára Štochlová get into the World Ranking Top 20. The Europeans finished fifth in Mexico and added 220 of the 600 points earned with the result to their total, going up from 23rd to 20th with 4,380 points.
