Since the very beginning of the match, both Argentina and Brazil showed fighting spirit. Brazil’s opposite hitter, Cecilia got injured during the first set, and had to be replaced by A. Rudiger. In what can be called a cat-and-mouse game during the whole match, Brazil found their way to emerge victorious in straight sets. Both sides fought hard, showing rather equal skills in the different components. The serve by the Brazilian players was the key to their success (5 aces in total). Argentina, on the other hand, outperformed slightly their opponent on attack (46 successful actions on this element, compared to 41 by the Brazilians). Argentina’s Bianca Cogno topped the scorers’ charts with 21 points to her name, while for Brazil, Stephany was the best with 19 points.
Machado da Silva Kátia Larissa, captain and middle blocker of Brazil: “We know that playing against Argentina is always difficult. Both sides really want to win. The final scores are showing how much the teams want to win. Patience in the difficult moments was the key of the match.”
The hosts from the Netherlands were on fire in their opening match vs Rwanda, claiming a quick victory in three sets, leaving no chances to their opponents. The Dutch team turned out to be a long shot for Rwanda’s players, who weren’t able to record a single block or ace. The Netherlands, on the other hand, recorded as many as 22 aces. Middle blocker Marije Ten Brinke topped the charts with 12 points, but it was the opposite hitter Vol Iris who finished with 8 points who had the best efficiency on scoring (80%).
