Once again, Israeli pair Eylon Elazar & Kevin Cuzmiciov showed that they are in excellent shape this season and topped the podium at the men’s Krakow Futures on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour that came to an end on Sunday in Poland. Home team Jedrzej Brozyniak & Piotr Janiak and Denmark’s Mads Mollgaard & Nicolai Houmann took silver and bronze, respectively.

Elazar & Cuzmiciov claimed their third medal in three Futures appearances so far this season. After the gold at the Songkhla Futures and the silver at the Nuvali Futures, the Israelis made a run for the gold in Krakow, winning five of their six matches played at the tournament. In the semifinals, second-seeded Elazar & Cuzmiciov got back at seventh-seeded Mollgaard & Houmann for the loss they suffered in their pool final with a tight 2-0 (21-18, 22-20) win, and in the final, they managed a 2-0 (30-28, 21-14) upset of top-seeded home favorites Brozyniak & Janiak. It was the overall fifth Beach Pro Tour podium for the Israeli pair. They had also picked up one silver in each of the two previous seasons they competed together. Last month, Elazar & Cuzmiciov took part in the Xiamen Challenge in China and reached the quarterfinals.

In the other semifinal, Brozyniak & Janiak produced a 2-0 (21-11, 21-15) victory over fifth-seeded Germans Tamo Wust & Tristan Frobel to secure their sixth Beach Pro Tour podium. They have now collected three silver and three bronze medals.

Mollgaard & Houmann snatched their second consecutive Futures bronze (after Cervia last month) and overall third Tour medal after a hard-fought 2-1 (21-12, 18-21, 17-15) win over Wust & Frobel in the third-place game.

28 men’s teams representing 18 different countries took part in the Krakow Futures. A women’s tournament will be held in Krakow this week, from June 12 to 15. Another three Futures events will be run concurrently – in Qingdao, China, in Jurmala, Latvia, and a men’s tournament in Malmo, Sweden.
