Steam Hemarpol Norwid Czestochowa did it again! Just days after defeating defending PlusLiga champions Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj in a tie-breaker match at home, they did the same with the previous title holders, ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle, only this time on the road, in one of two midweek games in Poland. In the other, Nowak-Mosty MKS Bedzin beat Indykpol AZS Olsztyn in straight sets.

Norwid’s Iranian captain Milad Ebadipour was on fire as he led his teammates to a 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 15-9) victory at the house of the mighty opponent on Tuesday. Spiking at a 66% success rate and adding one ace and one kill block to his tally, the outside hitter produced a total of 25 points and shared the top scorer honours of the match with ZAKSA’s opposite Mateusz Recko, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

As many as four of Ebadipour’s teammates also reached the double digits: Czech opposite Patrik Indra with 17 points, middle blocker Daniel Popiela with 15, outside Bartlomiej Lipinski with 13, and middle Sebastian Adamczyk with 10. For the home team, Romanian outside Daniel Chitigoi added 17 points, while his Belgian cross-court teammate Igor Grobelny and middle Mateusz Poreba scored 11 apiece.
With this win, Norwid jumped three positions up the current standings to seventh place on 7 points, a 3-1 win-loss record and a game in hand. ZAKSA were one of the teams they surpassed. The former European champions are down to eighth on 7 and 2-2, also with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Nowak-Mosty moved up four positions to 10th place in the table, on 6 and 2-3, after a 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-17) home win over Indykpol on Wednesday, which pushed the squad from Olszstyn down to 14th place on 3 and 1-4. Canadian outside Brandon Koppers delivered a match-high 19 points, including two aces and a block, for the winners and claimed the MVP nomination. Opposite Damian Schulz added 14 points, while German outside Moritz Karlitzek was Indykpol’s most prolific player with 12 points.
