The only team to keep a perfect record after four matches in the Polish Tauron Liga, PGE Grot Budowlani Łódź will try to continue clear at the top of the standings at the conclusion of the fifth leg of the regular season, which will have matches going from Thursday to Sunday in the country.

On Sunday, Budowlani, who have 12 points collected and just one set dropped, will face a team in the Polish League top four for the first time in the season, meeting fourth-placed MOYA Radomka Radom on the road at 16:00 local time (14:00 GMT) in the only match of the day.

Looking for their first-ever Polish title, Budowlani, who took silver in the 2016-2017 and 2018-2019 season, are still getting used to being the team to beat in the country.

“This season we are aiming for the top of the table and our rivals who don’t have the same aspirations are using all their strengths against us,” setter Alicja Grabka said. “We must learn to play this role and approach every match with great focus to avoid surprises. We haven’t lost a point yet, which is great, but we have to keep it up.”

Their next opponents Radomka are having a solid season, appearing in fourth place with eight points (two wins, two losses). They’ve been a thorn on the side of the country’s biggest teams, having defeated defending champions Lotto Chemik Police and taken second-placed KS DevelopRes Rzeszów to the tie-breaker.

Radomka also have some of the individual standouts of the start of the Polish League, such as middle blockers Kamila Witkowska and Martyna Piotrowska, who are tied for first in blocks with 20 each, Bulgarian outside hitter Maria Yordanova, who’s the second-best scorer with 83 points and third in kills with 79, and Croatian outside hitter Laura Miloš, who leads the league in passing efficiency with 75%.

Opole and Mielec duel on Thursday

The three remaining matches will be held on Saturday, with third-placed ŁKS Commercecon Łódź facing eighth-placed Chemik at 12:30 local time (10:30 GMT) and sixth-placed BKS BOSTIK ZGO Bielsko-Biała meeting tenth-placed Metalkas Pałac Bydgoszcz and 12th-placed Sokół & Hagric Mogilno hosting 11th-placed Energa MKS Kalisz at 17:30 local time (15:30 GMT).
