Brazil, Argentina and Colombia qualify for women’s World Cup 2027

At the end of the fourth competition day at the CSV Women's Volleyball South American Championship in Rio de Janeiro, the three teams that will bring home medals and book tickets to the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup are already known. Unbeaten Argentina and hosts Brazil will clash on Sunday in a direct battle for the continental crown and a berth at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games women’s volleyball event, while Colombia are already sure to finish in third place, earn the bronze and reserve a spot at the World Cup, along with Argentina and Brazil.

On Saturday, all three of these teams celebrated straight-set victories over their opponents and secured qualification for next year’s World Cup in Canada and the United States.

Brazil have been on a perfect run of four straight-set victories, sweeping their matches against Venezuela, Peru, Colombia and Chile. Argentina also defeated all of these four opponents, but dropped a set against Peru and two against Colombia.

Those two sets won against Argentina, plus their straight-set wins over Chile and Peru, have now guaranteed Colombia a bronze-medal finish. They are third in the current standings on a 2-2 win-loss record and 7 points, out of reach for fourth-placed Venezuela, on 1-3 and 3, whom they will meet on the last competition day in Rio on Sunday.

It will be Brazil’s 19^th appearance at the World Cup (previously the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship). Argentina will mark their ninth participation, while for Colombia it will be only the third time at the global event, after they also competed at the last two editions, in 2022 and 2025.

The 2026 CSV Women's Volleyball South American Championship will come to a completion on Sunday with the last leg of the single round-robin format. Colombia and Venezuela will meet at 09:00 local time (12:00 UTC). The tournament will then climax with the South American classic between Brazil and Argentina at 12:00 (15:00), and close with a fifth-place decider between Chile and Peru at 15:30 (18:30).
