Poland Super Cup action will open on Saturday, October 24, at 15:00 local time (13:00 UTC). The first official trophy of the Polish club season will be claimed by either national champions and national cup winners PGE Budowlani Lodz or  defending super cup holders DevelopRes Rzeszow in a remake of last season’s TAURON Liga final, which was resolved only after a deciding fifth game.

It will be the fifth super cup final for Budowlani. They have won the crown three times – in 2017, 2018 and 2020 – and settled for second place in 2010. They qualified for the upcoming showdown as reigning national league and cup winners. Last season, they triumphed as TAURON Liga champions for the first time in the club’s history and conquered their third Poland Cup trophy. So far this TAURON Liga season, Budowlani have won two of the three matches played and occupy fifth place in the current standings on six points. The current squad features stars like experienced setter Katarzyna Wenerska, Swiss opposite Maja Storck, Romanian national team captain Rodica Buterez and Slovenian middle Sasa Planinsec.

“I am counting on a good match from us and I hope we will show on the court what we've been working on in training. I think we still need some time to gel, but we're heading in the right direction. The first matches haven't fully shown what we are capable of yet. We are working hard in practice, so I hope we'll play better and better with each game. This will be an important match for us, regardless of what stage of the season we are at. We know it won't be easy, but I think we are well-prepared and motivated. We'll do everything we can to return to Lodz with the trophy.” Katarzyna Wenerska, setter of PGE Budowlani Lodz

DevelopRes have never lost a super cup match and have also lifted the trophy three times in the history of the competition. They won the most recent edition last year after a four-set victory over another Lodz team, LKS Commercecon, and also triumphed in 2021 and 2022. The silver medalists of last TAURON Liga season have made a solid start to the new season and top the current table on eight points and a 3-0 win-loss record. This season’s roster is highlighted by high-level players like Julita Piasecka, Netherlands’ Marrit Jasper and Laura Jansen, and USA’s Taylor Mims, conducted by Polish national team setter Alicja Grabka.

"We are playing for our first trophy of the season and we are only one match away from winning it. I am very happy that we're starting to play for such stakes at the beginning of the season and that the chance to win our first trophy appears so quickly. I can't wait! I am very positive and I think we are prepared. I am happy to be on a team capable of winning the Poland Super Cup." Alicja Grabka, setter of DevelopRes Rzeszow

Last season, Budowlani and DevelopRes met as many as eight times. They traded home victories during the TAURON Liga regular season, while Budowlani scored a four-set win in a Poland Cup semifinal, before they engaged in a five-game race for the title with the squad from Lodz emerging victorious from the best-of-five championship series. The overall head-to-head record in the TAURON Liga stands at 19-15 the way of DevelopRes.

The sold-out men’s Poland Super Cup showdown will follow on Sunday, October 25, at 15:00 local time (14:00 UTC), with the star-studded squads of reigning national champions Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie and Poland Cup winners and defending super cup trophy holders BOGDANKA LUK Lublin hitting the court in Czestochowa, also in a remake of last season’s five-game national league final.

It will be the second super cup appearance for Warta. The first time they contested the trophy two years ago, they triumphed after a five-set battle with mighty Jastrzebski Wegiel Jastrzebie-Zdroj. This will be the first time the team from Zawercie arrives at the super cup game in the role of national champions after claiming the title last season for the first time in history. In their most successful season ever, 2025-2026, they also picked up FIVB Volleyball Men's Club World Championship bronze and CEV Champions League silver. However, Warta started the new season with a shocking straight-set loss to newly-promoted GKS Katowice, before recovering with a win over ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle, and currently stand seventh in the TAURON Liga table on three points and a 1-1 win-loss record. The club, set to host the Club World Championship later this year, has put together a truly remarkable lineup featuring Portuguese setter Miguel Tavares, opposites Bartlomiej Boladz and Italian international Kamil Rychlicki, outside hitters Tomasz Fornal, Bartosz Kwolek and USA’s Aaron Russell, middle blockers Jakub Kochanowski and Mateusz Bieniek, and libero Jakub Popiwczak, among others.

"The opportunity to play in this match is incredible. I am glad we are playing for the super cup. Every tough match in this early phase of the season will definitely shape this team in some way. In sports, there is no invincible team. History and past success do not play a role in the game. Victory has to be earned on the court." Michal Winiarski, head coach of Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie

BOGDANKA have also played only one super cup match before and won it. Last year, they beat Jastrzebski Wegiel in four sets and are now in the role of defending super cup champions, also thanks to the fact that last season they won their first Poland Cup crown as well. They also have an amazing line-up to put up against the Warta stars – with outside Wilfredo Leon, Bulgarian middle Aleks Grozdanov, opposite Kewin Sasak, setter Marcin Komenda, and new Japanese additions Ran Takahashi and Tomohiro Ogawa ready for the big challenge. The team from Lublin has already taken control of the top of the TAURON Liga table at the start of the new season, with straight-set wins over ZAKSA and Energa Trefl Gdansk.

"The super cup is definitely an important trophy. We want to show our best, defend the trophy and get pumped up for the rest of the season. We have the energy and skills to play our best volleyball in important moments." Kewin Sasak, opposite of BOGDANKA LUK Lublin

Last season, Warta won five of the seven league games against Lublin, including three in the best-of-five championship playoff. The all-time head-to-head record between the two clubs in the league is heavily in favor of Warta, 13-6 in wins.
