Serbia claim 9th place at WU20 World Championship

 

Leon, Mexico, Sunday July 22, 2019 - The last day of the FIVB Volleyball Women's U20 World Championship was a day full of emotions and goodbyes. There were tough matches but also new friendships created as the 20th edition of the tournament came to an end in Leon, which featured the final classification matches of the event.


Cheered on by their fans, Mexico played for the 9th place of the WU20 World Championship. The young women representing their country enjoyed the game and shared that feeling with the spectators, who never stopped providing support from the stands, even as Serbia went on to claim the match in three sets 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-22).

For Egypt, who were playing Rwanda for 15th place, the best scorer was Zeina Elelemy (10) with 16 points, followed by Hadeer Ewais (7).  Rwanda was led by Munezero Valentine (10) and Olive Nzamukosha with 18 points each.

    
The Dominican Republic defeated Cuba 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22) and got the 13th place of the World Championship. In a "Classic of the Caribbean", both teams demonstrated their skills on the court. Ailama Cese (12) led the Cuban team scoring 17 points. For the Dominican Republic it was Natalia Martínez (8) who led scoring with 10 points, 9 of them via attacks.

 
Argentina ended their participation in the FIVB Women’s U20 after a 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 23-25, 26-24) victory over Peru to claim 11th. Martina Delucchi (8), who started the match as a reserve, scored 23 points for Argentina. Giulia Montalbetti (8) and Kiara Montes (11) from Peru scored 13 points each.


Finally, Serbia got a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-22) victory over Mexico to reach the best possible place available in Leon, Mexico, the 9th of the WU20 World Championship. More than 3,300 spectators were in the Domo de la Feria supporting the teams. The best scorer of the match was Uxue Guereca (1) of Mexico with 17. For Serbia, Milica Milunovic (11) scored 14 points, 11 spikes, 2 attacks and 1 serve.
