A new round and a new start at the WU20 World Championship

 

Leon, Mexico, July 16, 2019 - The Dominican Republic and Cuba got the attention of over 3000 spectators at the Domo de la Feria in Leon with a spectacular five set match.

Egypt and Serbia played the second match of the day at the Domo de la Feria. A match where the four-time African Champions played a good game against Serbia. Serbia, however, claimed a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-15) victory over Egypt. Veronika Djokic scored 14 points for Serbia, followed by captain Jovana Mirosavljevic with 13. Zeina Elelemy led Egypt with 12 points.


 
Mexico started with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-16) victory over Rwanda in the second round. Uxue Guereca (10), Sofia Maldonado (9) and Renata Lopez (9) were the top scorers for Mexico. While for Rwanda, Francoise Yankurije scored 7 points - with more than 3,450 fans cheering for both teams.

Argentina had difficulties starting all three sets, but at the end with a lot of teamwork they were able to get a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-22) victory over Peru. Argentina fought up to the end and won the love of the people at Domo de la Feria. Camila Perez with 10 points was the best scorer for Peru. Sol Salinas led Argentina with 17 points.

 

A “classic of the Caribbean” was the last game on Tuesday at the Domo de la Feria in Leon. The first two sets were for the Dominican Republic, a very strong and tall team who had the skills to dominate the situation 3-2 (25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 19-25, 18-16). Cuba with a youth team were able to show the kind of volleyball who made them a traditional and unique team. Ivy Vila was the best scorer for Cuba with 22, for the Dominican Republic it was Natalia Martínez with 24 points.
