Draw held in Cairo ahead of Girls' U18 World Championship

 

Cairo, Egypt, July 1, 2019 - The 20 countries set to participate in the FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship in Egypt from September 5 to 14 learned which teams they will take on in the pool phase of the competition after a drawing of lots ceremony was held in Cairo.

Hosts Egypt will take on Brazil, China, Cameroon and Puerto Rico in Pool A, while title-holders Italy were drawn alongside USA, Korea, Canada and Mexico in Pool B.

Pool A: Egypt, Brazil, China, Cameroon, Puerto Rico
Pool B: Italy, USA, Korea, Canada, Mexico
Pool C: Russia, Argentina, Belarus, Thailand, Romania
Pool D: Turkey, Japan, Peru, Bulgaria, DR Congo



The 2019 Girls' U18 World Championship will be the fourth Age-Category World Championship in this year's calendar after the Women's U20s take place in Mexico from July 12 to 21, the Men's U21s in Bahrain from July 18 to 27 and the Boys' U19s in Tunisia from August  21 to 30.

Italy, the Dominican Republic and Russia claimed the medals in 2017 when the competition was held in the cities of Rosario and Santa Fe in Argentina.


Italians Elena Pietrini (12) and Sarah Fahr (6) featured for the Italian team when they claimed victory at the 2017 edition of the FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship in Argentina.
