National beach volleyball tour season takes over in full swing

FRANCE

The 2024 France Beach Volley Series national tour was launched over the weekend with a men’s tournament in Dijon. Joadel Genevieve-Gardoque & Keran Duval earned the first gold of the season. In Sunday’s final, they mastered a 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) victory over Melvin Delanghe & Alexandre Klein. Theo Marty & Noah Burlas celebrated the bronze. In the third-place match, they managed a 2-0 (21-18, 21-15) win over Benoit Chartier & Clement Valot.

KENYA

The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) held its second stop of the 2024 KVF Homologated National Beach Volleyball Tour over the weekend at the Strathmore University grounds in Nairobi. In a remake of the men’s final at the first stop held a week earlier, Brian Melly & Edward Kibet triumphed after beating Elphas Makuto & Jairus Kipkosgei by 2-1 (21-15, 17-21, 15-10). Joseph Muliro & Daglous Maina finished in third place to claim the bronze medal after delivering a hard-fought 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 15-13) victory over Anthony Chimanyi & Denis Esokon in the third-place match.

In the women’s category, Naomie Too & Gaudencia Makokha crowned their reunion as a pair with a 2-1 (21-7, 13-21, 15-9) victory over Mercy Iminza Likhayo & Sharleen Maywa Sembel in the final (pictured in the main photo; credits: KVF) to emerge as champions for the first time this year. Brackcides Khadambi & Phosca Kasisi won the bronze medal following a 2-1 (18-21, 21-11, 15-11) comeback victory over 16-year-old Abigael Chebet and 17-year-old Sharon Chepkogei.

NETHERLANDS

A women’s tournament in Apeldoorn marked the beginning of the 2024 BetCity Eredivisie Beach national tour in the Netherlands. Wies Bekhuis & Brecht Piersma lived up to their top-seed status and won the tournament after a 2-0 (21-13, 21-16) sweep of Sunday’s final against second-seeded Kirsten Broring & Emi van Driel. Third-seeded Mila Konink & Desy Poiesz finished third upon a 2-0 (23-21, 21-13) win over Serena van der Made & Rianne Stok in the bronze medal game.

SWITZERLAND

Switzerland’s Emmi Caffe Latte Beachtour 2024 started with an event at the central railway station in Zurich last week. Top-seeded Menia Bentele & Muriel Bossart celebrated on top of the women’s podium. In Sunday’s gold medal showdown, they delivered a 2-0 (21-14, 21-15) victory over lower-seeded Simone Julia Raaflaub & Joelle Rohrer. The third-place match was also decided in straight sets. Nadine Demierre & Jasmin Schwab produced a 2-0 (21-17, 21-14) win over second-seeded Leona Kernen & Annique Niederhauser to claim the bronze.

Women’s results and standings

In a thrilling men’s battle for the gold, second-seeded Adrian Heidrich & Leo Dillier achieved a hard-fought 2-0 (21-17, 25-23) victory over top-seeded Florian Breer & Marco Krattiger. The third-place match also offered a gripping clash, in which Julian Friedli & Yves Haussener celebrated a 2-0 (21-17, 21-17) win against fourth-seeded Quentin Metral & Jonathan Jordan.
