Cortegaça to welcome World Tour to Portugal

The Portuguese Volleyball Federation's Center for High Performance in Beach Volleyball (CARVP) in Cortegaça, south of Porto, will host a double gender 1-star FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour event from August 12 to 15.

It will be the World Tour's first visit to Cortegaça, but not the first to Portugal. Sixteen men's events and 11 women's took place in Espinho from 1995 to 2007 and from 2017 to 2019. Other Portuguese venues for international and European beach volleyball events have included Esposende, Porto, Porto Santo (Madeira Island) and Macedo de Cavaleiros.

The competition will take place at the federation's sports facility, which also hosted the finals of the country's 2020 and 2021 national beach volleyball championships.

After hosting 4-star events in 2018 and 2019 (Espinho), the Portuguese Volleyball Federation (FPV) continues its tradition of organising international beach volleyball competitions, including World Tour or age category European and World Championships.

Medallists at the Portuguese National Championships

In the men's competition in Cortegaça, Portugal will be represented by several teams including 2021 national champions Roberto Reis/Sebastião Alves, vice champions João Pedrosa/Hugo Campos, João Simões/Rui Moreira and Gabriel Cardoso/Fabrício Barros amongst others.

The women's tournament will also feature Portuguese teams, including national champions Juliana Antunes/Tânia Oliveira, Carolina Maia/Margarida Maia (vice national champions), Matilde Rodrigues/Mafalda Porto and Inês Castro/Beatriz Pinheiro.
