Apeldoorn and Nijmegen to host 1-Star Beach Volleyball World Tour events

The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) has confirmed the addition of two double-gender 1-star events in the Netherlands to the FIVB World Tour 2021 calendar, with Apeldoorn and Nijmegen set to host events on 9-12 and 16-19 September respectively.

Apeldoorn is a familiar place for beach volleyball teams and fans. Since 2015, it was one of four Dutch cities (together with The Hague, Rotterdam and Amsterdam) to host a highly successful edition of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. In 2018, Apeldoorn also co-hosted EuroBeachVolley with three other cities including The Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht.

Meanwhile, Nijmegen, a city close to the German border, is relatively new to the international beach volleyball competition scene. However, Nijmegen hosting a 1-star event will provide another valuable opportunity for both established and up-and-coming teams to perform on the international stage.

The newly added events bring the number of 1 and 2-star World Tour tournaments in Europe to 15 in 2021 – a truly impressive figure considering that organisers and promoters still have to overcome the challenges presented by the pandemic.

The Dutch Volleyball Federation (Nevobo) and promoter Sportworx will once again join forces – just as they did for the successful CEV Continental Cup Final – to extend the beach volleyball season further into mid-September and continue to promote the Netherlands as one of the most popular destinations on the international beach volleyball map which includes the upcoming King of the Court tournament in Utrecht on 25-28 August.
