Binstock and Schachter, seeded 21st in the World Championships, made steady improvement throughout the 2014 FIVB World Tour season with three-straight “final four” finishes at the end of the campaign. Entering the 2015 season, the pair played in seven FIVB World Tour events and finished the 2014 calendar with a fourth (São Paulo), first (Paraná) and second (Doha). The Paraná gold medal was Canada’s first on the international tour since Berlin 1996 when John Child/Mark Heese topped the podium. The Canadians will be playing in their first “senior” World Championships. Binstock, who started playing full-time on the world tour in 2010, competed in the London 2012 Olympic Games with Martin Reader and won one of four matches. Schachter captured the 2010 under-21 world title with Garrett May in Turkey where they defeated Brazilians Vitor Gonçalves Felipe and Alvaro Filho in the three-set finale in Alanya. Two years later, Schachter started competing full-time internationally.
